Season One · The Halloran Case
Nobody looked
into it
Emmett Halloran, the private investigator who had this office before Danny, was murdered nine months ago. The case was closed without ever really being opened.
Twelve people knew him. One of them killed him. Danny talks to one of them every week, live, in Vell.
How an episode works
They come in
The phone rings, Vera says there is someone here to see you, and Danny talks to them for an hour.
Chat opens a tape
Halloran recorded everything, and he interviewed all twelve before he died. Chat pools apples to break a seal.
The accounts don't match
The tape plays after the guest has gone, so they never hear it and can't explain it. The gap is the clue.
The tape shelf
Four hundred unlabelled tapes in the office cellar, and no index — Halloran couldn’t keep one. These are the ones that have been opened.

The houses
Everyone in the city belongs to one of them, or is conspicuous for belonging to none. Five will take you. You choose once.
Where it stands
The office is Danny's now. The shelf is full and nothing on it is labelled. Nothing has been opened yet.
New here? Start with the houses, then watch one episode.
