Zaden

The oldest of the houses and the smallest, mostly clerks, archivists, valuers and landlords' men. Zaden read places rather than people: what has been moved, how long a room has stood empty, to the season, sometimes to the week. Useful at an inventory, unbearable at dinner. A Zaden walks into your home and knows immediately how much of it you do not use.
